ODTUG Kscope19 Dedicates Time to Help Alleviate Hunger in Seattle

Donate Now!

ODTUG Kscope is a singularly unique event in Oracle user group conferences. One reason is our signature Community Service Day project, during which ODTUG Kscope attendees give back to the community we are visiting.

This year, ODTUG has partnered with Pike Market Food Bank for our community service day project. Pike Market Food Bank alleviates hunger in downtown Seattle by providing families with free healthy groceries weekly. The food bank distributes more than 800,000 pounds of food annually with more than 40,000 visits and home deliveries. In operation since 1979, the Pike Market Food Bank is a fixture of Market life and part of a community approach to ensure that all residents in downtown Seattle have access to quality and nutritious food.

12:30 – 1:30 p.m.            Registration and lunch, Washington State Convention Center, Room 4A, Level 4
1:30 – 2:00 p.m.              Volunteers walk to Pike Place Market Food Bank
2:00 – 2:15 p.m.              Volunteer orientation with Pike Market Food Bank
2:15 – 4:45 p.m.              Volunteer service project
4:45 – 5:00 p.m.              Volunteers walk back to Washington State Convention Center

ODTUG Kscope attendees will assemble 1,000 sack lunches of nutritious, ready-to-eat, non-perishable meals. These “no-cook” bags meet the nutritional needs of Seattleites facing homelessness and other emergency situations. Based on increased need for food that doesn’t depend on kitchen or housing for preparation, Pike Market Food Bank aims to provide this service in addition to their regular food bank hours. This activity will serve the community’s growing emergency food needs for over a month. Throughout the activity, groups of 10–15 people will have the opportunity to go on 20–30 minute walks around the Market, getting acquainted with the other Human Service Agencies that partner with Pike Market Food Bank. The Food Bank and the Washington State Convention Center are conveniently located a half a mile apart. We will be leaving from the Convention Center and walk as a group to the Market. If you want to join ODTUG Kscope in giving back to this truly amazing organization, sign up today! Space is limited.

Pike Market Food Bank depends on generous individuals and community-minded companies to fund its programs and help provide families with free healthy groceries weekly. For the Community Service Day project, Pike Market Food Bank staff members are needed to assist in the on-site activities and food is needed to keep our volunteers energized. Companies or individuals donating more than $300 by May 14, 2019, will have their names or logos featured on the back of the official Kathleen McCasland Community Service Day t-shirt. No donation is too small!
